Current 2012 Vintage

Our wines recently arrived in the U.S. and are available for purchase. This represents an opportunity to obtain many super premium “reserva” wines that will be produced in very limited quantities.  The wines offered are:

Generaciones Gran Corte 2012
The 2011 vintage of Chaiken Vineyards’ Generaciones Gran Corte is a blend of four varietals – 34% Malbec, 34% Syrah, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Cabernet Franc.

Harvest:
All grapes were picked in April 2012 from vines planted in our own vineyard in 2007. Yields were less than 2 tons per acre.

Fermentation:
Grape varietals were fermented separately. After a cold maceration of 8-10 days at approximately 8-12°C (varied by varietal), yeast and nutrients were added and the stainless steel tanks were allowed to warm to encourage fermentation. The wines fermented dry in 14-24 days and were racked into approximately 50% new French oak and 50% second use French oak barrels. Final alcohol content is 14.4%.

Barrel Age, Blending, and Bottling:
After 8 months of barrel age, the wine was blended in stainless steel tanks and returned to the barrel for an additional 8 months of barrel age. The wine was bottled in October 2013 and arrived in the U.S. in June 2014.
